Overview of the series
PURPOSE
It is God’s will that we give thanks in all circumstances (1 Thessalonians 5:18). We are also encouraged by the Apostle Paul to always abide in faith, hope, and love (1 Corinthians 13:13). This series is intended to provide Scriptural encouragement and direction on how to maintain an attitude of gratitude while building our faith and hope in Christ Jesus.
METHOD
Typical components of the service will be enhanced by testimony from the youth regarding what they are thankful for and how they may maintain and share their hope in Christ through love in the upcoming year. Select presenters will be determined during the months of November and December based upon discussions and activities to be conducted during Sunday Church School.
WEEK NINE (December 31)
The Formula to Life
Faith and hope based in a love in Christ is key to living now and forever. Let us list the ways that we can show love (to God and to the others) as the LORD commands in the upcoming year to maintain and to share our hope in Jesus the Christ.
WEEK EIGHT (December 24)
Hope in Christ
The birth of Christ is a manifestation of God’s faithfulness. Remember, Jesus’s name means, “God saves (see Matthew 1:21).” Let us, then, take time today to look beyond the temporal materialistic gifts we exchange during the Christmas season to celebrate the everlasting hope Christ offers us.
WEEK SEVEN (December 17)
God Offers Hope
The LORD’s dedication to providing for His children (that is, all of us) is well documented in the Holy Bible. God is intentional in all that He permits to occur in our lives to prepare us to live life more abundantly. What Holy Bible verses can help us remain confident in our hope in the LORD and His faithfulness?
WEEK SIX (December 10)
FAITH AND Hope
Some say, “Seeing is believing.” However, there is much God has done and promises to do that we are not able to see with our eyes. God has promised us a future life with Him. However, we must remain faithful to the LORD in order to see it to fruition. Our faith in Christ provides evidence of our hope in Christ.
WEEK FIVE (December 3)
Thankfulness Fuels Hope
Gratefulness to the LORD is a key component to our hope in Christ and evidence of our faith in Christ. Our hope is driven by gratitude which also gives us access to peace even during times of trial and sorrow. Today we will study how such thankfulness drives hopefulness.
WEEK FOUR (November 26)
Jesus Gave Thanks
The LORD showed thankfulness regardless of the situation. The Holy Bible reveals how Christ expressed gratitude whether He was glorifying the Father, performing miracles, or even preparing to endure hardship. Let us reflect on moments in the Holy Bible where Jesus the Christ demonstrates proper gratitude towards God.
WEEK THREE (November 19)
We Are to Be Thankful Together
Having gratitude and respect for the example of humbleness, faithfulness, and love Christ demonstrated can aid us in living in a manner that is pleasing to God and helpful towards each other. What behaviors should we avoid to reflect our gratefulness to the LORD and how might our actions affect others?
WEEK TWO (November 12)
We Are Instructed to Be Thankful to God (Part 2)
We do not belong to our circumstances. Instead, we belong to Christ and are united by Christ and our faith in the LORD. Such unity aids in our endurance as we encourage one another in the LORD. Let us review God’s commands and how following them helps us to help each other to keep an attitude of gratitude towards God.
WEEK ONE (November 5)
We Are Instructed to Be Thankful to God (Part 1)
Giving thanks to the LORD is key to recognizing and remembering God’s goodness even in bad situations. Let us consider how being grateful to God’s faithfulness can help us endure difficulties and challenges in life. Also, let’s look at prayers of thanksgiving in the Holy Bible (such as Hannah’s in 1 Samuel 2:1-10).
